Wild Coast: Port St Johns to Coffee Bay. Overnight in cottages, backpackers and Hluleka Nature Reserve. Shuttle transport back from Coffee Bay to vehicles in Port St Johns.
Walk on the beach, through nature reserves, villages and possibly cliffs. NB: You must be able to swim - for the river crossings!

26-27 Jan

Monk's Cowl: Zulu Cave via uMakhulumane Gorge. A little used, but spectacular forested gorge leading towards the Hlathikulu Nek path and on to Zulu cave. Lots of Bundu bashing. Returing via the contour path and The Sphinx.

Mkhomazi: McKenzie's Cave, returning via Cyprus Cave. Fairly easy beginner's hike but with some off-piste hiking on the second day.

Garden Castle: Bushman's Nek Hut via the Giant's Cup Trail and return. Nice introduction to longer hiking but with a hutted overnight stay.

Garden Castle: Follow the Giant's Cup Trail from Garden Castle to Hidden Valley. Ideal for first time backpackers. Lovely pool next to the camp site. Don’t forget to bring your costume and hiking tent.

16-17 Feb

Monk's Cowl: Climb Intunja (Gatberg) from Zulu Cave. A head for heights is essential to reach the summit, and more so if you want to sit in the hole! We do need a scarecrow to stay with the packs though.

Mnweni area: Rockeries pass on day one, to Mponjwane cave. Returning via Mnweni Pass on day two. Escarpment hike to up 3000m altitude. Not for the unfit or the faint hearted. We leave the cars at Mnweni Cultural and Hiking Centre.

Garden Castle: Wilson's Cave via Castle View Farm; Sandleni Cave via Pitsaneng Pass; Fun Cave via Umzimkhulu Pass; return via Castle View Farm. This is a 4-day route with relatively short but challenging legs that could be a good introduction to escarpment hiking for newer hikers wanting to up their game!

Monk’s Cowl area. Sterkhorn Peak (Mount Memory) Height 2973 metres. UP and DOWN in one day. Day packs. Approx’ 11hrs. On return, overnight in Monks Cowl area, Saturday night. You MUST be fit for this hike.

Beach Walk: Umdloti to Umhlanga and back, lunch at the Bush Tavern. Walk on the beach from the Umdloti Carpark to Bronze Beach Umhlanga past the Umhlanga Lagoon with a possible river crossing; Leave Umhlanga via the Umhlanga Nature Reserve. Rain Stops Play. Pre-book by Friday 1 March.

Note: It is the prerogative of a hike leader to accept or reject members or other applicants from participating in his or her hike, after questioning the applicant on their fitness and experience. It is a privilege not a right to participate in a hike.
