Club members and non-members who have performed special service to the Club are:

Lawrence Bates

Lawrence founded the Club in January 1987 and served as its chairman until 2006.

Peter Connolly

Peter was one of the Club's most popular backpacking leaders until his death in 2007.

Luciano Colombo

Luciano served as a backpacking leader for many years and was one of its most popular members, entertaining and easy-going. He died in a hiking accident in the Cathedral Peak area in 2008.

Donald Benn

Don is recognised for his tireless commitment as groundsman and barman at the Whirling Wheels social venue, and as the printer of the Club's magazine.

David Gay

David is recognized with gratitude for the huge effort made in developing and successfully implementing this website.  He also served on the Executive Committee as Backpacking Convener from 2006 until 2010 and continues to lead hikes for the Club.
