Interested in joining the Mountain Backpackers Club?

Member Benefits

  • The Club has a core of experienced, knowledgeable leaders in whom you can place your confidence and trust.
  • We welcome members of all ages and abilities.
  • We offer several activities each week, catering for a wide range of abilities.
  • Members receive a quarterly magazine containing a fixture list and other useful information.
  • Beginners can hire equipment while they decide what is best for them to purchase for themselves.
  • Members qualify for discounts at leading outdoor equipment suppliers.
  • Regular talks and presentations by guest speakers allow you the opportunity to learn from their knowledge and experiences.

Costs

To become a member of the Club costs R130 per single person or R160 per family per annum, but from 1 August the fees are halved. Renewal of membership fees are due on 1 January each year.

How to join

  1. Read the Code of Conduct.
  2. Complete the Registration Form which is linked from the Code of Conduct, preferably on-line.
  3. Pay the membership fee.  The banking details will be emailed to you. Please pay via EFT (please use your name as a reference) or post a cheque to P.O.Box 37702, Overport, 4067.  Please do not deposit cash into our account as this attracts hefty bank charges.
  4. Submit your registration form (if printed) and proof of payment via fax (086 612 3657) or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
  5. Once proof of payment has been received, you will be given access to the member-only parts of the site, and will receive a package containing your new membership card, hiking log book and welcome booklet.  The latest fixture list and Club newletter is available on the home page.  If you do not have an email address a printed copy can be posted to you.
